WIZO South Africa became an affiliate of World WIZO in 1934 and associates itself with all its objectives.
WIZO (Women's International Zionist Organisation www.wizo.org) is an international movement of Zionist women that was founded in England in 1920 and operates in over 50 federations around the world with over 250 000 members!
WIZO is committed to working actively for an improved Israeli society through it's many welfare and educational projects and services.
WIZO is a non-partisan Zionist movement and is recognised by the United Nations as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) with consultative status on ECOSOC and UNICEF.
The State of Israel has a rich diversity in its citizens. Jews form all four corners of the globe have made Israel their home. Assistance is needed for weaker segments of the population and citizens in distress. This necessity was manifested even prior to the establishment of the State in 1948 and has been adapted according to the prevailing conditions in the country. Even today, tens of thousands of citizens are in need of assistance and support to cope with their daily survival and predicaments - and it is here that WIZO enters the picture.
WIZO provides assistance to all sectors of the community. From newborn babies to the elderly, WIZO provides a safe haven of comfort. WIZO enriches the lives of children and youth in day care centres and schools. It provides a great framework for youth in it's network of youth clubs and one on one assistance for teenage girls in distress and victims of domestic violence who obtain psychological counselling, rehabilitative care and legal assistance. WIZO is committed to the empowerment of women and operates services and a guidance system to facilitate this.
