A number of years ago the kashrut department of the Johannesburg Beth Din established a laboratory for monitoring infestation in flour, fruits, vegetables, grains etc. With the assistance of international experts in this field they have been able to establish guidelines for checking and cleaning food items.

In order to keep monitoring any changes that may occur in the local situation, they are in need of a number of volunteers to systematically assess the current circumstances.

The kashrut department is looking for volunteers in the kosher community to help them do a current audit of the situation on the ground in SA.

“If you are willing to assist us by becoming part of this team of people checking in your own homes and reporting back to us, please contact Pinchas Godberg via email (pinchas@uos.co.za).”

Anyone volunteering will need to attend “a session where Pinchas takes you through our current methods of checking, after which we will expect you to keep methodical records of your findings and keep us informed.”
