I've read up on the movement
I've read up on the movement to try and ban ritual slaughter in the Nederlands, from most of the Dutch papers, Political Parties and people in general, there is not much support for such a ban. Mainly due to it going against freedom of religion and expression of religion. The main drivers to try and get the ban is what I would call the lunatic fringe left (in the Netherlands it would be Groenlinks, SP and other very small parties), 95% of the "gemeente" public do not support the ban.
CDA - Against
ChristenUnie - Against
SGP - Against
VVD - Against (freedom of religion)
PvdA - hinted that this ban is against freedom of religion (the members will probably vote according to their own conscious).
D66 - Against, stated that this party is against the unsupervised and incorrect slaughtering procedures.
Even the paper "Joods Actueel" from Belgium also gave an update on the voting of the proposed ban, the majority was against such a ban.
PS - the party to introduced the initiative is :Party for the Animals, direct translation from: Partij voor de Dieren = lunatic fringe
Nice early-bird update -
Nice early-bird update - thanks. It sure puts it in a different context. "Partij voor de Dieren" indeed! Conjures up thoughts that we could have an "Aliyah Party" here - we'd also have one MP (no names, no packdrill).
