“Be aware, as we were informed by the [SAPS], most police are going to be focusing on tourist destinations and stadiums during the World Cup.”

This stark warning to the community comes from well-known security services provider, Magen Security, whose CEO has warned its clients to be on the lookout for a host of special risks that will arise during the World Cup.

Magen have kindly agreed that we can publish their warning newsletter to clients for the benefit of the entire Jewish community.

“You must be more alert to suspicious activity or suspicious vehicles around your house or in your area,” says the warning letter. “Report anything you may find or think as suspicious as promptly as possible.”

We publish the newsletter verbatim below for the benefit of all our users and with grateful thanks to Magen Security.

Attention all customers,

Please be aware, as we were informed by the [SAPS], most of the police forces are going to be focusing on the tourist destinations and the stadiums during the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Therefore you must be more alert to suspicious activity or suspicious vehicles around your house or in your area. Please report anything you may find or think as suspicious as promptly as possible to our control room so we may dispatch an armed response unit to the area immediately

The criminals know the hours of the games and they will try to take advantage in this time to break in to your houses and commit crime.

Simple steps to follow:

• In light of the recent power failures and load shedding, we suggest that you test your alarm and or panic buttons often, at least once a week, at no additional cost. Should you discover any problems, please do not hesitate to contact us.
• Check for suspicious looking people on your way home (in your area), if you see any and it brings you serious concern please call it in to our office (any time of the day or night) & we will assist you and send out a patrol car, to have a look.
• Check that all locks, doors and windows are secured once you are inside your property as well as when you leave.
• Always activate your alarm, once you have left the premises.
• Please be aware of strangers working in the area (i.e. if any construction is taking place) & inside your own premises.
• Please lock up all valuables and don’t have them lying around your premises (this includes inside your house), especially if you have domestic workers and gardeners.

Magen Security will provide an extra patrol to secure the area better and will be on standby for you.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish BAFANA BAFANA GOOD LUCK and a successful world cup to all South Africans.
