The much-anticipated launch of Jack Shapiro’s classic new book about old Doorfontein, is a seriously nostalgic trip down memory lane. The book will be introduced at the launch by Rosh Yeshiva College Rabbi A Tanzer.

The launch is being hosted by the Joburg Jewish Resource Centre (JJRC, formerly Beyachad Library) next week.

Author Jack Shapiro is a well-known in the community having been an active member of Hashomer Hadati, Bnei Akiva and Bnei Akiva Hachsharah. He served in Israel’s 88th Airborne Paratrooper division during the Sinai Campaign. In addition he was a founder member of Kibbutz Lubner and Hatikvah House Camp David in Magaliesburg.

Next Tuesday the JJRC will be hosting the launch of this evocative book about old Doorfontein which has been expertly written by Jack. “Even if you didn’t grow up in Doornfontein, you will enjoy this delightful trip down memory lane,” says library committee chair Marcia Parness.

The JJRC is located at Beyachad, 2 Elray Street, Raedene and the launch will take place on 23 November at 17h30 in the Jessie Kaplan Boardroom.

There will be copies of this book on sale. Bookings for the launch can be made by contacting Norma on 011 645-2567.
