Tessa Abramovitz is an accomplished vegetarian cook of long standing. A few years ago Tessa consulted an Ayuvedic doctor for medical reasons and she became interested in the Indian-based food the Ayuvedic way.
Recently, Tessa started teaching cooking the Indian-based food. It isn’t curry, or food that burns, she says, “it has the flavours of the Indian herbs and spices but not the chilli.” She says she doesn’t like hot or spicy food.
“South African Indian food is very spicy,” she says. “I don’t cook like that.”
Tessa will be running a once-off introductory course in Illovo for a kosher group of no more than eight people on Sunday 12 December. It will run from 9.30 to 1pm and the cost is very reasonable at R200. The price includes all ingredients, a meal, and some recipes to take home.
Tessa says that if there is enough interest, she will start a weekly class from January.
The deeper idea with Ayuvedic cooking, is to gain more of an understanding of the spices that suit specific body types, in line with Ayurveda being an ancient Indian knowledge about the maintenance of life.
Anyone interested in attending can call Tessa on 072 199-2170 or e-mail her at tessalee@netactive.co.za
