ISRAELI CHEFS Johnny Goric and Charlie Fadida show off their gold medals.jpg

Picture it: The international Villeroy & Bosch 2010 Culinary World Cup competition, in the beautiful and thriving little country of Luxembourg.

The tables are laden with ambrosial offerings from scores of chefs, the world’s finest, whose food has been praised by kings and presidents, captains of industry and screen celebrities, sports stars and the rich and otherwise famous.

There is a hush – great expectation – and the winners of 3 gold medals are announced: the four chefs who comprise the multi-ethnic Israeli team called Taste of Peace.

Arab-Christian Johnny Goric, Jewish Israeli Charlie Fadida, Muslim Arab Imad Shourbaji and Armenian Ibrahim Abu Sir have between them worked at some of Israel’s most exclusive hotels, including Jericho’s Intercontinental Resort, Tel Aviv’s Sheraton and the Jerusalem Centre’s Notre Dame. And having cooked for kings, presidents and prime ministers with great success, they have in turn received wonderful kudos for their brilliant artistry and superb cuisine.

NEWS FLASH! The JNF-SA is re-launching itself with a
New image, a new vibrant committee, new ideas and new
energy. Innovative, transformative and exciting, we look
forward to sharing with you our new vision and objectives.

Their message? That peace in the kitchen is a sure forerunner of peace in their country, the country they love with a passion and where they promote their award-winning culinary skills for the benefit both of the local populace and the millions of tourists from every corner of the earth who are tempted not only by Israel’s beauty, religious tolerance and fabulous nightlife, but by her food which is an integral part of Middle East magic. As further proof of their unity and their success as ambassadors of peace, they have joined both the World Association of Chefs Societies and the Israeli Chefs Union.

Now it is the turn of South Africa to present these award-winning chefs to the people of Johannesburg and Cape Town. They will bring a multiplicity of dishes, traditional and modern, to tempt the palates of the most jaded food critics and re-ignite for them the splendour of Mediterranean dishes. They will prepare delicious starters, soups to warm the cockles of the heart, elegant and epicurean main courses, and magnificently awe-inspiring desserts.

On Monday evening 31 October these four chefs will be showcasing their culinary excellence at Summer Place in Melrose, the loveliest of venues. They will be presenting a five-course tasting menu, together with the appropriate Israeli wines, during an evening which promises to be both sophisticated and thoroughly enjoyable.

This is a unique event and will appeal to the most discerning of diners, those for whom the appreciation of good food is part of the enjoyment of the finer things in life.

Seating is limited, so we urge you to book your place as soon as possible. Contact Amber at amber@beyachad.co.za; or call 011 645-2579.
