As of now, we have still not had word from the Beth Din regarding kosher sukkot at eateries in Joburg. We have asked for the list and will post the information as soon as it becomes available.

But we did spot this one at PK’s (ex-Shirley’s) which we found fascinating. Lionel Marcus was the man who had to build it.

It seats up to forty patrons and still allows passageways for the entrances to PK’s and Kollel Bookshop.

Lionel says that much of the material from previous years’ Sukkot had disappeared and so he has all-but had to start from scratch.

PK’s will be open for breakfasts and lunches from Sunday 26 to Wednesday 29 September. Lionel will be running his normal menu as well as a special lower-priced menu throughout.

“I wanted to make sure that we were able to offer an affordable meal for families over this period,” says Lionel of his special menu.

But, he warns, they can only seat 40, “so booking is essential.”
