The South African Union for Progressive Judaism (SAUPJ) is clearly not taking any chances on people double-booking or forgetting their Biennial Conference and 80th Anniversary Gala Dinner.

“The SAUPJ is preparing a celebratory conference marking its 80th Anniversary,” read their e-mail notice sent out today. “The Conference and celebrations will take place in Johannesburg, home to three Progressive congregations and sub-Saharan Africa’s largest Jewish Community from 8 to 10 June 2012.”

The SAUPJ advises that “this is planned as a time of discussion, learning and sharing of best practices for vibrant Progressive Jewish life,” and that a “formal save-the-date notice is attached.”

Sending out such an early invite may at first seem strange, but given that they add the comment: “Africa awaits you” would indicate that they are expecting overseas visitors to attend the celebratory conference.

So, folks, save the date!
