Rabbi

Moshe

to the

rescue,

again!

Shtetler Rabbi Moshe Silberhaft pointed out to us that CNN’s Africa Report this week included a feature on the Jews of Zambia. Errol Burnett of CNN takes viewers to Livingstone, Zambia, which was once home to one of the oldest Jewish settlements in Africa.

Rabbi Moshe Silberhaft, who is the CEO and Spiritual Leader of the African Jewish Congress (which is funded by American Jewry), says that the cemetery was totally restored in 2005.

“In 2009 a vagrant moved in,” Rabbi Moshe told MyShtetl today, and the municipality steadfastly refused to remove him despite protestations from the Rabbi and the community. In December 2011 the municipality finally removed the vagrant.

Rabbi Silberhaft will be travelling to Zambia shortly to restore it once again, and, he says, he has spoken to CNN and there will be a follow-up story.

MyShtetl, of course, will keep users posted!
