The second-most read story of all time on MyShtetl (with 4,757 reads to date) was posted in Jan last on the SAJBD Cape Council setting up a HAITI RELIEF FUND.
We hope this appeal enjoys as much success.
Today’s appeal to the community by Wendy Kahn reads as follows:
Dear Community Member
None of us can have been left untouched by the horrific tragedy that has befallen the Japanese people over the past few days. South African Jewry is now answering the worldwide call to assist with relief to alleviate the suffering caused by the earthquake and tsunami.
In doing so, let us all remember how the international community similarly rallied to Israel’s aid following last year’s devastating fires that wrought such havoc in the northern part of the country.
Amongst those international Jewish organisations that have pledged their assistance to Japan is the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. The JDC announced on Friday that it was collecting funds for relief efforts and has reached out to the Japanese Government to offer its expertise in earthquake and tsunami-related response.
Said JDC Chief Executive Officer, Steve Schwager: “Our prayers and sympathies go out to the families of those lost in the earthquake in Japan and as we have before in Haiti and in nations struck by the Indian Ocean Tsunami, JDC will leverage its disaster relief expertise and strong partnerships in the region to react swiftly and sympathetically to the needs of victims”.

What about a "little" fund
What about a "little" fund for the Fogel family in Itamar?
I am often very critical of
I am often very critical of the Board but this an similar humanitarian intiatives that it has launched over the years are fantastic and are in keeping with the true spirit of Jewish values.
Kol Hakavod I will most definitely be contributing to this fund and will encourage my friends, family and collegues to do the same.
I would encourage all that can to do the same!
