Ambassador Segev-Steinberg spoke of Israel’s historic contributions to the environment. He further noted that, “Israel’s environmental awareness and technological development has never been for her use alone.”

It has benefited her Palestinian, Jordanian and Egyptian neighbours, who have also profited through better utilization of the region’s scarce water resources, the management of waste products, and the exchange of technology in areas of agriculture and energy conservation.

Further afield, said the Ambassador, Israel’s revolutionary drip-irrigation techniques are now utilized in many parts of Africa, India and the Far East, helping millions of people to manage their natural resources to provide sufficient food for their communities.

Of COP17, the Ambassador said: “When it comes to the protection of the environment, Israel is fully committed to joining the international community in not only talking about the issues of climate control and the conservation of energy, but in seeking practical solutions as co-inhabitants of an increasingly fragile world, and putting them into practical application.”
